Karliner torch songReb Ahron Karliner's nigun as taught to Eve Ilsen, Jewish Renewal's very beloved torch singer, by Reb Zalman. A truly beautiful devekes nigun. This nigun is also used as the setting for the shabbat song Yah Ekhsof. Here's the Hebrew to Yah Echsof from the page referenced by Bernard below: יָהּ אֶכְסֹף נֹעַם שַׁבָּת ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ thanks for sharing this body of work Posted by: beth prusky at January 30, 2007 3:56 PM Does anyone actually know how the niggun fits in with the words of koh echsof. I've got it by Mendy Werdygger but I can't put it together. Posted by: bernard at April 28, 2008 3:41 PM Ok, there is a version at http://www.piyut.org.il. [Note from Reb Duvid: This is an orchestrated version – so it was hard for me at points to hear the plain melody at the beginning. For a studio recording, however, it's not too baroquely ornamented, and it gives the words, which should help everyone learn the song. Thanks Bernard!] Posted by: bernard at May 5, 2008 8:41 PM |
